We Are Hiring We have an opportunity to become the Chief Medical Officer/Post Acute Care for our AMITA/IL Market. What You Will Do The Chief Medical Officer, Post-Acute Care, works in a dyad partnership with the President & Chief Post-Acute Care Officer and is a key member of the post-acute care leadership team. Works with Post-Acute and AMITA Health Senior Leadership to outline quality, safety, and value-based care initiatives across AMITA Health. Drive the clinical strategy and goals of AMITA Health by leading local clinical and quality initiatives that sustain the provision of clinical performance and practice standards, under the direction of the Chief Post-Acute Care Officer and with guidance from the System Chief Clinical Officer. AMITA Health's post-acute continuum of care includes long term acute care hospital, home health, hospice, palliative, acute and outpatient rehabilitation and home infusion. Focus on integrating and aligning clinical resources and services to deliver needed care to patients and families. Provide vision, direction, and supervision to medical staff. Promotes and fosters a multidisciplinary approach to patient care, and the coordination of care among disciplines. Acts as the peer consultant to the medical staff in the areas of care coordination, clinical resource utilization and documentation. Works collaboratively with other physician and administrative clinical program dyads to prioritize initiatives which increase patient value (affordability, access, quality, and experience) and improve the management of a population. Is a member of the system clinical operations leadership team and coordinates closely with system and regional clinical leaders. This role helps lead the strategic development and growth of home-based programs and services to improve efficiency, quality, and patient experience in support of acute care transitions and population health initiatives. RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES Clinical Services --- Develops provider strategies, objectives, and tactics to achieve local and System objectives for clinical outcomes. --- Promote and foster a multidisciplinary approach to patient care, and the coordination of care among disciplines. --- Develops and coordinate systems/processes for controlling costs related to clinical resource utilization. --- Ensure that medical staff clinical practices comply with all local, state, federal and other regulatory requirements as well as nationally recognized standards of care. --- Collaborate with leaders to deliver results around patient outcomes, clinical risks and quality, case management, utilization management, physician satisfaction, and patient satisfaction. --- Provides support to the Clinical Documentation Team, Care Coordination Team, and the medical staff for resolution of challenging cases, including intervening with physicians when necessary. Quality and Patient Satisfaction --- Articulate a vision for medical staff by supporting programs that increase quality. --- Develops metrics and performance goals to achieve improved patient value. In addition, defines and designs system-wide care standards, clinical guidelines, and protocols within post-acute care. Identifies areas of unexplained variation, helps develop performance improvement initiatives to decrease this variation, and ensures adoption of evidence-based practices, where appropriate. --- Sets post-acute and cross continuum quality/patient safety/value metrics in collaboration with System clinical leadership, ensuring alignment with System quality/patient safety/value metrics. Ensures alignment of these goals with the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) of AMITA Health and cascades goals throughout the system. --- Drive clinical integration strategy and patient outcomes by assuring clinical alignment with System initiatives such as accountable/value-based care and other clinical integration processes to maximize clinical outcomes. --- Support quality and performance improvement metrics maximizing reimbursement and incentives provided by various governmental, employer, and private insurers. --- Collaborate with the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) to support clinical guidelines and outcomes measures, risk and quality management, utilization review and management activities and peer review to assure that established procedures are followed, improvements are made when needed, and that clinical committees follow through with their responsibilities to improve patient care services. --- Ensure delivery of evidence-based medical care by guiding and advising regional clinical quality improvement initiatives. Physician Management --- Oversee and administer verification and credentialing process for medical staff. --- Identify, develop, and mentor physician leadership, including physician advisor support for care/utilization management. --- Evaluate providers' use and competency of System EHR and assure adequate and effective training of providers. --- Serve as a representative of physicians to System leadership. Assess the efficiency/ effectiveness of System processes/ policies as they relate to physicians. --- Support physician recruitment and development efforts with medical group. --- In collaboration with the CEO and CFO, the CMO is responsible for designing and deploying physician alignment strategies. --- In collaboration with (same as above) responsible for identifying and implementing physician joint venture opportunities. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE Education: Doctor of Medicine Degree from an accredited institution and Board Certification required. Must be eligible for or hold a current and unrestricted state license to practice medicine. License/Certification preferred: Advanced business training, such as an MBA or MHA is desirable. Management degree or formal management coursework preferred (i.e., MBA, MHA, MMM). Experience: Five years' experience in clinical practice with three years of progressive leadership responsibilities or positions. Prior physician leadership experience would include, for example, a Medical Director or CMO for a large multi-specialty group practice, physician practice management organization, hospital/hospital system, or health plan. Proven track record leading physician groups, including group facilitation, leadership development, team-building, performance management, and driving cultural change. Experience working with physicians to strategize and develop measurable improvements in the quality of clinical care, affordability, and patient satisfaction. Proven experience implementing a continuous improvement culture with establishment, achieving, and sustaining appropriate process and outcome measures for key initiatives. What You Will Need Licensure / Certification / Registration: Physician MD/DO credentialed from the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required. Credentials are verified by local staff credentialing office. Education: Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathy (DO), Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS), Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD), Doctor of Optometry (OD), or Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) required.
